SPR Announces Katherine Ghilain and Alexander Leff as Principals of the Firm

SPR is very pleased to announce that Katherine Ghilain and Alexander Leff have become Principals of the firm. Katie and Alex contribute robust, diverse skills and experiences that significantly shape SPR’s renewable energy practice group and bolster the firm’s traditional environmental legal work. Katie’s practice focuses on environmental litigation, environmental review and permitting, renewable energy development, and regulatory compliance counseling. She represents clients in a wide variety of matters arising under both federal and state laws and regulations. Katie’s experience includes challenging and defending projects under the National Environmental Policy Act, the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act. It also includes guiding municipalities, public entities, and private clients through environmental review and permitting processes. In addition, Katie maintains an active pro bono practice focused on the international natural resources trade, biodiversity, and resiliency. Prior to joining SPR, Katie worked in the Environmental and General Litigation practice groups at Arnold & Porter LLP. Katie is a graduate of New York University School of Law and Vassar College. Alex concentrates his practice on renewable energy and infrastructure project finance, mergers and acquisitions, tax, and energy law. Alex focuses on structuring and negotiating complex renewable energy project finance and tax equity transactions and has extensive experience in the purchase and sale of renewable energy projects and project portfolios. As a complement to his project finance practice, Alex regularly assists project sponsors with tax and state, regional, and federal energy regulatory compliance, and he often advises clients on the negotiation of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts. Alex also maintains an active practice representing emerging companies and “clean-tech” startups. Alex received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law and his B.S. from Boston University.
